Atlanta Women in AI Event Recap: Turning Connections Into Revenue

According to Charlene, successful businesses understand that each component depends on the others.

Atlanta Women in AI Event Highlight Georgia

Atlanta’s vibrant innovation community recently gathered for an empowering session hosted by Atlanta Women in AI, where business owners, professionals, and technology leaders explored a challenge that impacts organizations across every industry: how to transform marketing activity into measurable business growth.

Leading the discussion was business strategist Charlene Banker, Founder of Slay Your Content, who delivered a practical, results-focused presentation on aligning marketing, sales, and customer success to drive sustainable revenue. Her message resonated with entrepreneurs and professionals alike: being busy is not the same as being profitable.

“Revenue is the lifeblood of our business,” Charlene told attendees. While many organizations invest heavily in social media, networking events, email outreach, and lead generation efforts, too many struggle to convert that activity into actual sales. She challenged the audience to think beyond likes, engagement, and business card collections and focus instead on creating systems that produce a measurable return on investment.

Building the Business Flywheel

A central theme of the presentation was the concept of a business "flywheel" consisting of three interconnected elements: marketing, sales, and customer success.

According to Charlene, successful businesses understand that each component depends on the others. Marketing attracts the right prospects, sales converts those prospects into customers, and customer success creates positive experiences that generate referrals and repeat business. When all three areas work together, companies build a self-sustaining cycle of growth.

The first step, she emphasized, is developing a clear Ideal Client Profile (ICP).

"If you market to everyone, you market to no one," she explained.

Rather than trying to reach every possible customer, businesses should focus on understanding exactly who they serve best. A clearly defined ICP helps organizations create more effective messaging, identify the right networking opportunities, and determine which marketing platforms deserve the most attention.

The Real Problem Isn’t Lead Generation

One of the most eye-opening moments came when Charlene challenged a common business assumption.

“It’s rarely a lead generation problem,” she said. “It’s a conversion problem.”

She noted that opportunities often already exist within LinkedIn connections, networking contacts, past prospects, current clients, and referral partners. The issue is not finding leads but consistently nurturing relationships and following up.

Research shows that many B2B sales require multiple interactions before a prospect agrees to a meeting. Charlene encouraged attendees to embrace an eight-touchpoint follow-up strategy, with each interaction providing value rather than simply asking for a sale.

Examples included:

  • Sharing relevant articles
  • Making introductions and referrals
  • Inviting prospects to events
  • Offering helpful insights or resources

This relationship-based approach sparked significant discussion among attendees, many of whom recognized they often give up too early in the sales process.

A Personal Story of Resilience

Charlene also shared a candid story about a difficult season in her own business.

After losing two major technology industry contracts within a 30-day period, she found herself rebuilding from the ground up. Rather than giving up, she adopted a more disciplined CEO mindset, creating a strategic daily operating plan focused on business development and sales activity.

By tracking key performance metrics, refining her ideal client profile, and implementing a structured outreach strategy, she was able to recover her lost revenue within 90 days.

Her experience illustrated one of the session’s most important lessons: success often comes from consistently executing proven systems rather than relying on luck or sporadic effort.

Customer Success Drives Long-Term Growth

The session concluded with a discussion about customer success and retention.

Charlene reminded attendees that acquiring a new customer costs significantly more than keeping an existing one. She encouraged organizations to prioritize onboarding, establish clear expectations, create quick wins for clients, and maintain proactive communication throughout the customer journey.

When businesses consistently deliver results, customers become their strongest advocates through renewals, referrals, and positive testimonials.

Empowering Women Through AI and Business Leadership

The event reflected Atlanta Women in AI’s ongoing commitment to creating spaces where innovation, leadership, and business growth intersect. While artificial intelligence was part of the broader conversation, the session ultimately reinforced a timeless truth: technology is most effective when paired with strong relationships, strategic thinking, and a commitment to delivering value.

For attendees, the takeaway was clear. Sustainable business growth isn’t about doing more. It’s about creating intentional systems that turn connections into conversations, conversations into clients, and clients into lasting advocates.

As Atlanta’s women leaders continue embracing both AI and entrepreneurship, events like these provide valuable opportunities to learn, collaborate, and build businesses that create meaningful impact throughout the community.
